I recently got my hands on a Discraft Buzzz and was reminded of how freakin’ awesome this disc is. It might just be the best disc golf midrange for beginners.
So without further ado, here’s my Buzzz review!
When I first picked up the Buzzz it immediately felt incredible in the hand. This bad boy has a slightly convex, beadless rim that provides an incredibly natural grip, allowing for a smooth release for both forehand and backhand throws. Discraft did an excellent job creating a disc that’s well-balanced and versatile, which is probably why it’s been one of the top selling discs of all time.
Flight Characteristics and Ratings
One of the standout features of the Buzzz is its dead straight flight path. With a speed rating of 5, glide of 4, turn of -1, and fade of 1, the Buzzz offers a stable and predictable flight path for players of all skill levels. I found it to be very forgiving, even when thrown without much arm speed. It holds a straight line with minimal fade, making it perfect for those long, accurate mid-range shots. The Buzzz can also handle various wind conditions, so you won’t have to worry about sudden gusts throwing you off your game.
Buzzz Plastic Options
The Buzzz comes in various plastic options, each with its own grip and durability. I tried out the Elite Z and ESP plastics, and I must say, I was impressed with both. The Elite Z plastic is known for its durability and vibrant colors, while the ESP plastic offers a slightly softer feel and excellent grip. Depending on your preferences, you can choose a plastic type that best suits your needs. The Buzzz is also available in other Discraft plastics like Titanium, ESP FLX, Z FLX, Z Glo, Big Z, Metallic Z, and Midnight Z.
Discraft Buzzz vs other Midranges
When comparing the Buzzz to other mid-range discs like the Innova Roc and the Latitude 64 Claymore, I found the Buzzz to be leaps and bounds more versatile and forgiving. While the Roc offers a bit more stability, it requires more power to throw and is harder to control for beginners. The Claymore has a similar amount of glide, but has slightly more turn. Overall, the Buzzz offers a great balance between stability, glide, and control.

Throwing the Buzzz
The Buzzz can be thrown using various techniques, making it an excellent disc for players looking to diversify their shots. For backhand throws, the Buzzz can be released flat for straight shots or with a slight hyzer angle for a gentle fade. When it comes to forehand throws, the Buzzz’s stability allows for smooth, controlled flights without turning over too much.
When I tried some anhyzer shots, I found the Buzzz held its line nicely before gently fading back at the end. It’s also an excellent disc for hyzer flips, where the disc starts on a hyzer angle and flips up to flat as it gains speed.
In conclusion, the Discraft Buzzz is an outstanding mid-range disc golf disc that I believe will benefit players of all skill levels. Its comfortable design, predictable flight path, and versatility make it a must-have for anyone looking to up their disc golf game. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned pro, the Buzzz is a disc you’ll want in your bag.
